1 Cor. 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
What a beautiful day it is! The sunrise was absolutely breathtaking; I see God’s magnificence presented to me in so many ways. If you’re ever feeling down and in need of encouragement, just go to your favorite place. 🥰 (Mine is in the woods, while others is at the beach.) Why do you think you’re feeling better after doing this? Nature has a way of connecting one with the Lord and you become grateful for His creation and how God uses it as a source of encouragement. All parts of nature can be absorbed through most of our senses and each one shows us His magnificence and glory! God is in each part of nature – He reveals Himself through each of His creation. (I did a devotional series on this topic entitled God’s Goodness, if you’d like to read it.) Now, back on topic. I opened today’s post with this because I wanted to emphasize the Great I AM. The God of yesterday, today and tomorrow, is the Creator of all. Is it any wonder that it is one of the names for the Lord? (John 1:3, John 1:10, Colossians 1:16)
Today’s post is of great interest to me. Have you ever wondered why God used this terminology to describe His name? The word Jehovah (Yahweh in Hebrew) comes from the Hebrew word “to be.” The Jewish people do not speak the word Yahweh as they believe it is too sacred to speak. The fuller name “I AM THAT I AM” may mean “I am because I am or I will be that I will be.” This name of God was so important that God said in Genesis 3:15 that His name is “for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” To me, “I AM” means that no matter what day in the history of man, God is “I AM.” The ever existing One, the current One and the future One! It comforts me to know that God is in my past, my present and my future! There is nothing that will take my God by surprise because He has seen me throughout my whole life, including when I was in my mother’s womb. Even though I am Kate Plourde, my existence began in 1954 and I am still in existence today. However, God the I AM, has no beginning and is always current no matter what day you go to in history or the future. It’s hard to comprehend but we can trust God to keep His Word because He never changes. (Malachi 3:6)
Do you remember Hagar, Sarah’s maid? (Genesis 16:3-13) When Hagar was pregnant with Ishmael, she was thrown out by Sarah into the wilderness Poor Hagar was destitute. But the Great I AM was not caught by surprise. The angel of the LORD appeared to her and told her to return to Sarah. He said that he would multiply her seed exceedingly. She must have been comforted by all that the angel of the LORD said because she said in Genesis 6:13 “Thou God seest me:” God, the I AM, saw Hagar and He sees each one of His creation! Praise Him \o/
Messiah, Jesus Christ, has and continues to speak through His Word! The New Testament had not been written yet; His plan of salvation is depicted throughout the Old Testament through Messiah. The New Testament reveals to us how Messiah Jesus the Christ fulfilled each of the Old Testament prophecies.
The prophecy of Exodus 3:13-14 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the I AM who takes away the sins of the world! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. It is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved if you are not already. Good morning! As I write this, it is an absolutely beautiful day! I sat rocking away on my back porch and felt that sun on my face, all was peace. Just as I began to get too warm, the Good Lord sent a nice breeze along. I don’t believe in coincidences anymore. As I have grown as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I have seen His hand in both my life and my husband’s. Just as I believe there are no coincidences, I also believe it is NO coincidence that God would provide the beautiful plan of salvation from the very beginning of creation for His creation. It is all throughout His Word and is still being preached today!
There are some pretty “meaty” morsels in today’s post! 😀 Messiah is defined in a few ways which depict His authority, power, character and reign. Let’s start with the very first descriptive word in today’s verse, which is sceptre. Why is this word used for the Messiah, Jesus Christ? We can view it as a representation of what He stands for. Let’s look at the Hebrew word and description, along with what today’s historical definition for sceptre.
The Hebrew word for sceptre is:
שֵׁבֶט shêbeṭ shay’-bet From an unused root probably meaning to branch off; a scion, that is, (literally) a stick (for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking, etc.) or (figuratively) a clan: – X correction, dart, rod, sceptre, staff, tribe.
Strong’s Concordance
The Lord Jesus Christ is seen in so many ways in Strong’s definition. Think of it:
Branch off: He is the vine and we are the branches (John 15:5). Jesus, the head of the branches, produces branches (both Jews and Gentiles);
A stick for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking: 2 Peter 2:9 shows the results of unrighteousness through punishment; Revelation 22:18 shows us what happens when we add or take away from His words; Revelation 19:11 shows us that Jesus will return to earth at the end of the Tribulation to judge and make war with the unbelieving world; Revelation 20:6 provides us with a glimpse of His reign where He rules in Jerusalem. This is when Shiloh, which is defined as tranquil/peaceful will be brought by the Messiah, ; and lastly, John 10:11-14 reveals that our Good Shepherd knows His sheep, He protects His sheep, His sheep hear His voice and walks with them, and He gave His life for them!
Furthermore, this sceptre is:
According to Wikipedia, A sceptre is a staff or wand held in the hand by a ruling monarch as an item of royal or imperial insignia. Figuratively, it means royal or imperial authority or sovereignty.
Wikepedia
We see this prophecy fulfilled by the Messiah, Jesus Christ, Our King, Jesus Christ is THE King of Kings as shown to us in 1Timothy 6:15, Revelation 17:4 and Revelation 19:16!
The prophecy of Genesis 49:10 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Scepter and Shiloh who takes away the sins of the world and will reign in truth and peace! Good morning! Grab your favorite beverage and Bible and let’s dive right in this morning! Today’s prophecy has a lot to unpack and it is oh so so good! As we saw in our first post from this series, God had a redemptive plan for mankind. It began in the Garden of Eden and brought forward with the nation of Israel and through Israel. Messiah would come to redeem the sins of both Jews and Gentiles! \o/ Praise the Lord! We stand to gain so much knowledge and wisdom when we learn about the history of this redemptive plan!
We begin with Abraham’s obedience and faith and because of these, the world would be blessed! Can you imagine this? God worked through Abraham years ago to provide His mercy! Praise Him! Abraham trusted God so much that he was willing to follow God’s commands to the “T”! God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son and Abraham followed these commands by faith. What a beautiful analogy of God sacrificing His Only Begotten Son, the Messiah Jesus Christ!
Because of Abraham’s obedience, God promised Isaac that his seed would produce as the stars of heaven! (Genesis 26:4) God spared Isaac from being sacrificed so that from Isaac’s seed, the Perfect Sacrifice for the world would come!
Both Abraham and Isaac are mentioned in this faith chapter in Hebrews. Through them would the Messiah come. We see this clearly fulfilled as we read the genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew 1:1-16! Therefore, yet another prophecy mentioned in Genesis 26:2-5 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! Good morning, Reader! I hope you are finding this series as interesting as I am. I love to learn anything about the Lord Jesus Christ. I especially love to read how Scriptures prophesied of His coming and how He fulfilled that promise! Today’s post is especially exciting 😀
Why do you think the Bible says that God will provide “himself” a lamb? God could have said “God will provide a lamb.” But He didn’t: He said “God will provide HIMSELF a lamb”! It’s no coincidence that these words were chosen in this manner here. Think about it! Later in Genesis 22:13, a ram was “caught” in a thicket for Abraham to use as the sacrifice. Two things are shown to us here:
God provided the sacrifice (Abraham didn’t bring the lamb with him) (Genesis 22:7-8). Abraham did exactly what God asked him to do and Abraham trusted in God. After God saw Abraham’s faithfulness and obedience to Him, He made a way for Isaac to be saved and God provided the sacrifice for Abraham, as well as Isaac. Prophetically, the Word tells us that there would come a time where God would HIMSELF be that sacrifice.
God would provide HIMSELF as a sacrifice, through Messiah Jesus Christ, for all sins, not just those of Israel. After Christ died on the cross and became the living sacrifice for our sins, the promise to Abraham would now be fulfilled! (See Genesis 17:4)
Just as God provided the lamb for Abraham, He provided HIMSELF as the Lamb of God for all mankind through Jesus Christ! Every word in the Scriptures is there for a reason. Verses point to another verse – the plan of redemption is foretold in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament; this is called the Red Thread of Redemption (which is a whole other study). When Jesus walked the earth, He did not have the New Testament; He quoted the Old Testament and preached from it.
The prophecy of Genesis 22:8 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! Stop! You are not mistaken that today’s Scripture is the same as the previous post! I know that it may seem repetitive, but this verse is packed with several pieces of important prophecies of the Messiah. So grab your favorite morning beverage and let’s dig a little deeper!
In today’s Scripture, we see the city of Salem and discover that Melchizedek was not only the priest but also the King of Salem. Jesus is our Priest and King!! I love it! Did you know that Salem was an early Old Testament name for Jerusalem? The word Salem means peace! Jesus, our Priest brings us peace through His death and resurrection. He also is our Righteous King who will bring peace to the world when He reigns! \o/ Glory!
If you doubt that the “then Salem” is Jerusalem now, take a look at Psalm 76:2 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. Where did the Old Testament Temple reside? Yes, the Temple resided in Jerusalem and it will be rebuilt there before Messiah returns. The Messiah King is mentioned many times in the Scriptures. Unfortunately, the Jews missed Messiah’s first coming and are looking forward to His “First” Coming; while Christians are preaching about His Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation.
Let’s also look at the following verses:
Jesus Christ, the King of Kings will return to the Mount of Olivet in Jerusalem. I found it interesting that the Mount is actually just a Sabbath day’s journey, which is only 2,000 cubits (3,000 feet – almost 6/10 of a mile). This is all the distance a Jew is allowed to travel on the Sabbath according to Rabbinical Law. It’s not far at all. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy completely!
So the prophecy of Genesis 14:18 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our King, Jesus Christ! Welcome back! 😀 If this is your first visit, I’m glad you decided to spend some time here to read about my favorite subject: the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua our Messiah! I absolutely love today’s topic! I learned about this not long after I was first saved and it is the very topic that got me interested in the different names for God. One of those names is in today’s verse!
Let’s take a look at what we can learn about Melchizedek, the priest of the most high God. First off, he’s the priest of the most high God. Jesus is the High Priest of God (Hebrews 4:14). We know that Abraham brought tithes to him (Genesis 14:20). We tithe to God, not to man (Malachi 3:8); it is in obedience to God, giving Him back in thanks for all that He has provided. Yes, our tithes help to support our church and its work. However, if we are only tithing so that the church recognizes that we have, we are tithing for the wrong reasons, amen? Melchizedek was a theophany of Jesus Christ. A theophany is the physical manifestation of God to man. Melchizedek accepted tithes; he brought forth bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most high God. All three of these are true of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I love that Melchizedek brought forth bread and wine; we see a wonderful picture of Jesus’ own body and blood brought to us in the Old Testament to be shed for us in the New Testament. It was taught from the beginning with Adam and Eve all the way through the New Testament, Reader! We see the wonderful sacrifice through Jesus Christ, to forgive all sins for all those who believe on Him. Since we are born again and read our Scriptures, we are wondrously able to see the gold nuggets that God gives to us! 😀 Praise You, Lord! (Psalm 9:1)
The Scriptures do not stand alone; each verse intertwines with other Scriptures revealing God’s love and mercy for His creation! The Bible, despite being written by different men in totally different times, contains no errors but only truth (Psalm 119:160, John 17:17). I found an interesting article at Answers in Genesis which expounds on the Bible’s uniqueness and inerrancy and I hope you enjoy it! It only solidifies the facts about its authority!
But friend, if you have managed to read through this entire post and you realize that you don’t know Jesus Christ in a personal way, it is not a coincidence. God has led you here so you can be led to Him. The prophecy of Genesis 14:18 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, High Priest after the order of Melchizedek! Good morning, Reader! Are you ready to dig into the prophecies of the Messiah in the Old Testament? He is none other than Jesus the Christ! I am praying that each person who reads this blog will be inspired to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and His wonderful words of salvation!! Time is short and we have a lot of work to do. Who will be excited about sharing the Gospel if not us? Some believe in Christ with very little faith and that’s all it takes. Others need solid proof of who He is and what His purpose is. Hopefully, these Messianic prophecies will help guide those skeptics to the Truth of God’s Word!
The promise in today’s Scripture was made to Abraham’s seed; it didn’t matter if Israel was a nation or not. But God promised and we see that promise kept as we look back at history. The most recent fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel is seen when Israel made a come back on May 14, 1948! Israel has her own land and is flourishing. Jews worldwide are returning to their home land. A once barren desert of land is now a beautiful country which supplies many nations with her exported goods. God has continued to bless Israel by protecting her against her enemies!
Some religions believe that the Church replaced Israel. This is called Replacement Theology and it so not true! Those who believe this are misguided and have not read through the Book of Galatians thoroughly.
The Apostle Paul, a Pharisee before he was saved, knew full well what it meant to be under the Law of Moses. Being a born-again Jew, a Messianic Jew, he then knew what it meant to be under the New Covenant of Jesus Christ.
So the prophecy of Genesis 12:7 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ! It’s a new day and what better way than to start it in God’s Word! My spirit was rejuvenated within me when I did the series on the Rapture and the Tribulation period. The desire to tell others became even more urgent. We mustn’t take our responsibility to spread the Gospel lightly. What excites you, Reader? Is it the latest iPhone release? Is it the new job? Jesus told us to go into all the world (Mark 16:15) and we should be excited to share something as wonderful as this! We may not be able to go into all the world, but we can reach out to those in our circle. If you’re into social media, use it to God’s glory! If you’re in the grocery store, ask the Holy Spirit to put someone in your path. There are many ways to share the Good News! Who knows if the Lord will place a Jew in your life and you are given the privilege of showing them who Messiah truly is! How exciting!!!
It’s hard for me to comprehend to what extent the devil has gone to get rid of the Jewish people. If you look throughout history, you see the devil’s work in trying to accomplish just that. On a side note, if you have not read the book: “Lily’s Promise: How I Survived Auschwitz and Found the Strength to Live” by Lily Ebert and Dov Forman, do so. It’s heart wrenching to read about man’s inhumanity to man but when one recognizes that it’s been Satan’s plan, it makes one’s blood boil. I guess since the devil could not stop the resurrection of Christ, he’s now bent on getting rid of Israel during the upcoming Tribulation. But just wait, I’ve read the Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ wins in the end! 😀
Today’s verse is a promise to Abraham that through his seed, ALL the families of the earth will be blessed, not just Israel. No one else is able to fulfill this promise but Jesus.
If only the Jews and Israel were to be saved, John 3:16 would read quite differently. Also, Peter gave a wonderful speech at Solomon’s porch where he clearly laid out that Jesus was their Messiah:
The Book of Acts reflects how the Church was first started. It began with born again Jews, friend! When the Apostles were gathered together by Jesus for His mission, He was their Rabbi. He taught in the synagogue and read from the Old Testament Scriptures. He didn’t have the New Testament as we have today. Right before Jesus ascended, He told them to be witnesses unto Him, first in their city, then the next city, then to those who were not true Jews, and then to the uttermost parts of the world (the Gentiles). Jesus gave them a plan to grow the Church! (Acts 1:8) Jesus said in John 14:12 that they would do greater works than He did! Jesus ministered to the Jews but the Apostles would bring salvation to the Gentiles! Praise God!! \o/
So the prophecy of Genesis 12:3 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ! I’m so excited about this new series, Reader! I’m excited because it’s an opportunity to learn just what those Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah are fulfilled by the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m also excited because it’s a study I’ve never done all at once. I’ve heard many messages throughout the years of my salvation dealing with Messianic prophecies but I’ve never actually done a specific study on the topic. I hope you are as excited as I am and that we can share together the beauty of the Scriptures. It truly is the living and breathing Word of God!! Each time we sit down and read its pages, the Holy Spirit of the Living God breathes on us and illuminates us. We should take it in as though our very lives depended on it. In fact, our lives really do need to depend on God’s Word. I’m so thankful for the Jewish heritage and what they went through to preserve the written words of God Almighty! I’m thankful that they were God’s chosen to bring salvation to the world! Through the Jews came our wonderful Saviour, the Messiah of all! This history and God’s Words are what direct our paths, amen?
How many times have you read through this verse? If you’re like me, probably too many times to recall, right? (I try to read through Psalms and Proverbs every month. In fact, if you’re interested in that reading schedule, you can go here.) But have you ever meditated on the meaning of Psalm 119:105? As yourself: (1) What is God trying to teach me in this verse? (2) How can I have a better “walk” with God by heeding its message? When we let the light of God’s Word light our every step, we can be sure we will not fall into the traps of the enemy. Imagine yourself in the woods walking along a path you have never walked on before. It’s almost dark and you can’t see the bumps and small holes that could twist your ankle. Wouldn’t you want the brightest flashlight possible to shine the way so you don’t hurt yourself? That’s exactly what this verse is trying to tell us! The Christian life is like this analogy. We have no idea what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone in the next few minutes. We can have every moment of every day planned. I love this Yiddish adage:
“Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht” is an old Yiddish adage meaning, “Man Plans, and God Laughs.”
God is in the future just as much as He is in the past and the present. He gave us His Word so that it could be that bright proverbial flashlight to light our way. Since God knew Adam and Eve would make the wrong choices, He had already made a way to draw us back into fellowship with Him! \o/ He wants to walk in the garden with His creation once again and He will accomplish His plan. Walk with me as we go through God’s redemptive plan from the beginning of time.
God existed even before time began and that is why He calls Himself, “I am.” (Exodus 3:14) He is not the god of the dead – He is the Living God of past, present and future. He knew, and still knows, what has happened and what is going to happen. When we view God in this light, we see that as much as He loves mankind, He also knows that His perfect creation would have a free will to choose. If God had wanted a robot to do whatever He says, He would have created a robot. However, He did not want this; instead, He created man for fellowship with Him. We see His desire with the fact that He walked in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. He wanted mankind to choose between loving Him or to love sin more.
Did you ever wonder why Adam and Eve made the choice to disobey God despite living in a “Utopia-type” world? I still can’t wrap my head around that one. When you take a look at your own free will, can’t you see the battle within Adam and Eve? God’s promise in today’s verse is made to Satan. God says that Eve’s seed would bruise Satan’s head but that Satan would bruise the heel of that Eve’s seed. This is an extremely old promise and God promises that one of Eve’s descendants would defeat that old serpent, Satan! (Revelation 12:9 and Revelation 20:2)
The Old Testament Scripture normally speaks of man bearing the seed. The seed of a man is the only way a woman can get pregnant. But if you notice in this case, God speaks of a woman’s seed. The very different part of this promise is that the woman who bears this seed does so without the help of a man (the virgin birth)! So who was the Father of this particular seed and who was to come from this woman’s seed? She was found with child of the Holy Ghost according to Matthew 1:18.
The child could not be anyone else but Jesus! He was not born of Joseph’s seed but only of Mary’s seed which was “brought to life” by the Holy Spirit! It gives us the “fulfilled” meaning of John 3:16:
Jesus existed from the beginning so how can He be “begotten”? His redemptive plan since the Garden of Eden had to be fulfilled in this manner. As far back as Adam and Eve, God required an offering. We see this in Genesis 4:3. Cain disobeyed due to his pride and brought the works of his own hands: the fruit of the ground he tilled. Abel, on the other hand, brought the firstlings of his flock. From that moment, a sacrificial lamb was required. The only way Jesus could be the Perfect Sacrificial Lamb was for Him to come to earth, take on human form through the Holy Spirit, and be born of a virgin! We will see those Scriptures of the Messiah in another post. Jesus would then live a perfect, sinless life so He could be that spotless Lamb of God to be sacrificed for all of mankind’s sins, not just those of the Jews. Yes, He was born of a human being, but remember, He existed before the beginning of man.
In this first post, it’s important to note that God desires to walk amongst us, as He did in the Garden of Eden. In order to do so, sin must be punished. Satan wants nothing more than to take as many souls with him to Hell. However, God desires restored fellowship and He had a plan to accomplish this.
As stated in Matthew 1:18, Jesus was not born of man’s seed but of the Holy Spirit through Mary.
Jesus was the first born from the dead (His resurrection) so that we could be “born again” in the Spirit with newness of life! He is the beginning of the Church and He is the head of of the Church!
When Jesus was born, Satan did all he could to destroy Jesus so that He would not be able to die on the cross and be resurrected from the dead. He influenced Herod to kill baby boys under two years old so Jesus would be defeated. He tried everything he could to keep Jesus from resurrecting. But nothing could keep Jesus in the grave! Praise the Lord!!! Being God, Jesus knew that He would be resurrected! The devil was told in the Garden of Eden that the woman’s seed would bruise his head (Jesus would descend from Israel) and all the devil would be able to do is bruise Jesus’ heel; Satan would not be able to defeat Jesus nor Israel. He has tried to destroy the Jews since then and has yet to succeed. History tells us about the persecution and martyred early Church Jews (just read Foxe’s Book of Martyrs). History tells us about Hitler’s monstrous efforts to annihilate the Jews in World War II. But the remnant of his efforts grew. According to Wikipedia:
As of 2020, the world’s “core” Jewish population was estimated at 14.8 million, 0.2% of the 7.95 billion worldwide population.
Jesus will not be defeated. He will come to judge the earth and defeat Satan.
So the prophecy of Genesis 3:15 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ! I have always wanted to do a series on the Messianic prophecies in the Scriptures which were fulfilled by Jesus. In my research, I have discovered that there are nearly one for every day of the year! Wow! You wonder how Israel missed Jesus Christ’s first coming with all the Scriptures that speak of Him pointing to both His first and second coming as the Messiah. As we have seen from the series on the Rapture and the Tribulation, I see it clearly since we are currently living in those end times. Today’s people are blinded by the devil’s work on this earth that they are missing the beautiful plan of salvation for which Jesus Christ gave His own life in order to redeem mankind! Won’t you join me on this journey to confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus is the One and Only Messiah? Let’s get started!
