Day 28 – God’s Word is Permanent
We’ve all been in a situation where we either have been told by our parents or have told our own children, “That is my final word! You either do as you were asked or you are in big trouble!” Does this bring back any memories?
The Ultimate Parent, our Heavenly Father, has told us this as well! Do you really think that the Creator of all things, the God of Glory, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the First and the Last, and the Almighty would go back on His Word? God is perfect, is He not? Perfection does not leave room for error. It is not so hard to imagine, my friend. Mankind accepts that math is an exact science with no deviations. How can you not, then, accept that God can preserve His own words into book form? You can believe that He created the universe, can’t you? You can believe that He created man and that we did not “evolve” from an amoeba that suddenly appeared one day, can’t you? Then why can you not believe that God’s Word is perfect, without change, is permanent without end and will go on forever as the Lord says in His Word?
(Psa 119:89) LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.(Psa 119:160) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.(1 Pe 1:25) But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
God has given His Words in written form so that we may be able to know how to obey Him and serve Him. (Deu 29:29) The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. No church – no one person has “secret” revelation from God. No one has advanced knowledge. God says that the secret things belong to Him.
He has left us His precious Word and we are responsible to read it, be saved by it, and allow it to grow us. If you are perfectly content in letting someone else chew your spiritual meat and digest it, you will one day regret that decision. It is each of our own responsibility to grow in the Lord. (2 Ti 2:15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. When you hear something from the pulpit, do you assume that it is according to the Word of God? If you do, shame on you! Paul exhorts us to study to show ourselves approved unto God.
I have been told by well-meaning Christians that it’s not up to them to interpret God’s Word but it’s up to their priest or their pastor. Why would God tell you to study His Word in 2 Ti 2:15 then? If your reasoning was correct, God’s Word would state that only preachers could study and we would have to glean from them. But God’s Word does not say that. This isn’t one of those verses that is hard to understand. This isn’t one of those verses that is so profoundly “deep” that it can be interpreted in many different ways. No! In fact, it is quite clear that we are commanded to study for ourselves! Why would God command us to do something and not give us the Book to study?
God did give us His words in written form and they exist today without error. God’s Word is permanent and He preserved it throughout the years. To say otherwise is to say that God is not able! (Act 17:11) These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. It is your responsibility to search the Scriptures daily whether what you hear at church or from your spiritual leader is according to the Bible. These Christians were being praised by the Apostle Paul himself! They were not just listening to some preacher (including the Apostle Paul)! If there was anyone you could listen to and rely on their words being Spirit filled, it was the Apostles right? However, Paul praised them for searching the Scriptures for themselves and making certain that his own words were according to God’s Word! This verse alone disproves that we should take the words of Joel Olsteen, Billy Graham, or even the pope or as truth! God gave us His Word and the ability to read it! We will be held accountable for what we did and did not do with His Word!
My friend, I can only beat a dead horse so much when it comes to this topic! We DO have the Word of God today without error! We DO have the ability to read and understand the Word and interpret it for ourselves if we are the born-again children of God. To say otherwise is unwise indeed!
