1 Cor. 15:52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Messianic Prophecies Fulfilled by Jesus – Day 13

Prophecy of Messiah:

Lev 14:11  And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

Have you ever wondered why leprosy in the Bible is likened to sin? Isaiah gave the best description in Isa 64:6  But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah is saying that even our very best deed is like filthy rags! Ponder that for a moment! The greatest philanthropist still needs salvation because nothing that person has done can make him clean before God. The procedure in the Old Testament for a leper to be pronounced cleaned was to first go to the priest. Then the priest had to present the man at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Jesus, the great High Priest, is the only One who can make us clean and He is the only door!

Heb 4:14-16  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  (15)  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  (16)  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1Jn 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Joh 10:7  Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. Joh 10:9  I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

This is why Jesus told the leper to go to the priest and do all that Moses commanded to be done in this instance. Jesus did not contradict the Scriptures but showed the priests that He was fulfilling those Scriptures: that He would make man clean as He is that one and only door which man must enter into in order to be saved! Jesus cleans us from our our sinfulness (our leprosy) and He is the only offering that can be given for our sin! He then presents us to that door – that entrance to eternal life in Heaven!

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Luk 5:12-14  And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.  (13)  And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.  (14)  And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

What a beautiful picture! Have you experienced the Lord’s mercy? He will show you mercy if your heart is open to acknowledge your sin before Him. He is the only one that can take leprous sin and forgive it! Jesus stands ready to forgive and save! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. It is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved if you are not already. Prophecy of Messiah:

Exo 33:19  And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

It’s a new day and it’s bright and beautiful on the outside. 😀 But how do you feel when it isn’t so sunny or beautiful? Do you rely on your circumstances to guide your emotions? I praise God that we don’t need to rely on our circumstances or ourselves to gain entrance into Heaven. It is only because of God’s love that we obtain mercy through Christ’s shed blood! God doesn’t have to show us mercy, but His mercy is displayed all throughout the Bible as it relates to rebellious Israel. We also see it in full when we accept His Son as Saviour and Messiah!

An example of His goodness is when He passes before us and He proclaims His Name in our hearts. He does this through someone He sends our way, or maybe even by watching church services online. He knows what it will take to open your heart to Him and He provides the perfect opportunities. It is at this point that we hear the plan of salvation and we accept it and believe it through faith. At that moment, we see His mercy and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God for His mercy upon my wicked heart! When my eyes were opened, it was as though a hundred pounds was lifted from my shoulders and I was no longer blind! The Bible, which was mumbo jumbo to me before that day, was now living and breathing. How exciting it is for me to discover God’s truths in its pages! Oh reader, I pray you have come to the same place and are born again and saved from the fiery pits of hell! If you are not, please, I beg of you, continue reading. Salvation can be found on this blog if only you will seek it! You do not want to experience the consequences of rejecting His mercy but instead be at the hands of His judgments.

We see that Jesus fulfilled today’s prophecy without a shadow of a doubt. In the Book of Luke, we learn that when Luke speaks of mercy, he is referring to Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah!

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Luk 1:72  To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

Luk 1:76-79  And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;  (77)  To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,  (78)  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,  (79)  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Mat 9:13  But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Eph 2:4-6  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,  (5)  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)  (6)  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Have you received Messiah’s mercy, reader? Have you experienced God’s forgiveness for your sins? The older you are, the more sins accumulate in your life. The more forgiveness is needed for those sins. Just as the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, much was forgiven in her life (Luke 7:44-48). Her repentance was evident; it was real and the Lord saw her heart and her need for salvation. Jesus Christ, the merciful, stands ready to show mercy. It is His nature to be merciful, loving and kind. No one else can claim this prophecy! Every human being reaches the end of his/her rope when someone sins against them repeatedly. But not the Lord Jesus! His mercies are plentiful and He is ready to forgive.

Psa 25:6  Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

Lam 3:22-23  It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  (23)  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

What a beautiful picture! Have you experienced the Lord’s mercy? He will show you mercy if your heart is open to acknowledge your sin before Him. Jesus stands ready to forgive and save! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Prophecy of Messiah:

Exo 17:6  Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

How are you this fine morning? It’s always a joy to start the morning in God’s Word and be able to see Him in every page that I read. I stand amazed how He reveals Himself and shows me just how marvelous and wonderful He really is! Praise Him! \o/ This morning, I came to the Rock that is higher than I am and begged Him to speak to my heart. (Psa 61:2  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.) It is Christ who reveals Himself to us through His Word. His Holy Spirit worked in men’s hearts to pen the Scriptures and not one letter or punctuation is wrong. We can rest in the knowledge that we are being taught by our Heavenly Father, our Abba! I heard a message the other day where the Preacher gave a wonderful depiction of the Trinity. The concept of three in one God is a difficult one. I’ve heard a few analogies but this was the best one yet. As white light goes through a prism, it is refracted into three primary colors: red, yellow and blue. As God is one God (the white light) He, in a sense, refracts Himself and reveals Himself as three personalities. One of those “refractions / personalities” is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus had to take on human form in order to accomplish the wonderful gift of salvation. (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9) Divinity wrapped Himself in humanity in order for us to be saved!

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

1Co 10:1-4  Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;  (2)  And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;  (3)  And did all eat the same spiritual meat;  (4)  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

I grew up in a religion where we were taught that the Peter was the rock and this was what the Catholic Church was built upon. However, when you look at Matthew 16:16-18, Jesus responded in this manner because of the statement that Peter made: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16). That statement, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, is what the Church is built upon, not Peter himself. In fact, the word Peter in Greek is defined as a piece of a rock (petros, which is masculine). The Church is built upon Jesus, the Rock. That Greek word in Matthew 16:18 is petra, which is feminine. This rock is a mass of rock, not a piece of a rock. The word petra is feminine – the Church which is the Bride of Christ, is feminine.

petra
pet’-ra
Feminine of the same as G4074; a (mass of) rock (literally or figuratively): – rock.

This is no coincidence, friend. Peter is not the rock. We must build our faith on the Rock. Jesus used an analogy that describes it well in Matthew 7:24-25. If our faith is built on the foundation of Jesus, the Rock, it will stand firm.

The Holy Spirit of God revealed this to me in the Scriptures (1Cor 10:4) the first week I was born again. He knew that this would be a stumbling block for me because I was raised Catholic. I remember calling my “spiritual mother,” Vicky, and telling her what the Lord had shown me. She always rejoiced at my “revelations” because she knew them as well. She was saved six months before me and God used her to show me the way to Him. 😀 The best thing she taught me was not to trust man’s words (or religion for that matter) but to turn to God’s Word and let Him show me and teach me. “Read the Bible for yourself and God will show you the truth of His Word.”

Friend, do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. Prophecy of Messiah:

Exo 12:5  Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

Exo 12:13  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Exo 12:21-27  Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.  (22)  And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.  (23)  For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.  (24)  And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.  (25)  And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.  (26)  And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?  (27)  That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD’S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

Exo 12:46  In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.

Good morning! In my personal opinion, today’s topic describes Christ and His mission as perfection and completion! Grab your favorite beverage and let’s dig deeper!

God set up the plan of salvation from the very beginning in the Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve chose to sin and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they realized their sin and tried to cover themselves by making an apron of fig leaves (Genesis 3:7). This was a covering made with their own hands; not much different than their future son Cain’s offering, amen? Instead, when God came to them, he showed them that their aprons of fig leaves were not sufficient. According to Genesis 3:21, God made them coats of skins. What skins? No animal had ever been killed up to this point. An animal was slain in order to cover Adam and Eve; but the shed blood of that animal produced that covering. From this point on, the pattern of a blood offering to cover sins was instituted. We see later in Leviticus 17:11 that it becomes an atonement for Israel’s sins. Noah Webster describes atonement as:

Atonement
ATO’NEMENT, n.

Agreement; concord; reconciliation, after enmity or controversy. Rom 5.
Expiation; satisfaction or reparation made by giving an equivalent for an injury, or by doing or suffering that which is received in satisfaction for an offense or injury; with for.
And Moses said to Aaron, go to the altar, and offer thy sin-offering, and thy burnt-offering, and make an atonement for thyself and for the people. Lev 9.
In theology, the expiation of sin made by the obedience and personal sufferings of Christ.

Today’s topic is how Jesus Christ fulfilled the sacrificial offering of a lamb in the Old Testament. Please take a moment to read through the verses above. If you are already familiar with these verses, meditate for a few moments on how you think Jesus fulfilled each of those Old Testament verses. Now let’s move on to the verses below.

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

1Pe 1:19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Rom 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1Co 5:7  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Joh 19:31-36  The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.  (32)  Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.  (33)  But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:  (34)  But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.  (35)  And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.  (36)  For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

When we stop, sit a spell and meditate between the requirements of the Jews’ sacrificial lamb and how Jesus the Messiah fulfilled each of these requirements, we discover that He was sacrificed for both Jews and Gentiles alike! Only His blood was enough for all! John 3:16 tells us that God’s love for the “world” would be the reason that He gave His only begotten Son! The only difference between the Old Testament lamb’s blood is that it covered the Israelites. The New Testament Lamb’s blood is that His blood forgives and pardons our sins:

Heb 9:22  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

The word remission is defined as forgiveness and pardon. Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sins so that we would not have to receive that punishment. He took our place, don’t you see? The Old Testament prophesied that He would and the New Testament revealed that He did! \o/

Isa 53:5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The prophecy of Exodus is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! When God “sees the blood” of His Son over us, He passes over us and we are saved from eternal life in Hell! Jesus took the punishment so we would not have to! What a beautiful picture! The Lord said that there’s no greater love than to die for his friends (John 15:13). Then we read two verses later (John 15:15), that He calls us friend! \o/ Are you a friend of Christ? Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. Prophecy of Messiah:

Exo 3:13-14  And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?  (14)  And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

What a beautiful day it is! The sunrise was absolutely breathtaking; I see God’s magnificence presented to me in so many ways. If you’re ever feeling down and in need of encouragement, just go to your favorite place. 🥰 (Mine is in the woods, while others is at the beach.) Why do you think you’re feeling better after doing this? Nature has a way of connecting one with the Lord and you become grateful for His creation and how God uses it as a source of encouragement. All parts of nature can be absorbed through most of our senses and each one shows us His magnificence and glory! God is in each part of nature – He reveals Himself through each of His creation. (I did a devotional series on this topic entitled God’s Goodness, if you’d like to read it.) Now, back on topic. I opened today’s post with this because I wanted to emphasize the Great I AM. The God of yesterday, today and tomorrow, is the Creator of all. Is it any wonder that it is one of the names for the Lord? (John 1:3, John 1:10, Colossians 1:16)

Today’s post is of great interest to me. Have you ever wondered why God used this terminology to describe His name? The word Jehovah (Yahweh in Hebrew) comes from the Hebrew word “to be.” The Jewish people do not speak the word Yahweh as they believe it is too sacred to speak. The fuller name “I AM THAT I AM” may mean “I am because I am or I will be that I will be.” This name of God was so important that God said in Genesis 3:15 that His name is “for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” To me, “I AM” means that no matter what day in the history of man, God is “I AM.” The ever existing One, the current One and the future One! It comforts me to know that God is in my past, my present and my future! There is nothing that will take my God by surprise because He has seen me throughout my whole life, including when I was in my mother’s womb. Even though I am Kate Plourde, my existence began in 1954 and I am still in existence today. However, God the I AM, has no beginning and is always current no matter what day you go to in history or the future. It’s hard to comprehend but we can trust God to keep His Word because He never changes. (Malachi 3:6)

Do you remember Hagar, Sarah’s maid? (Genesis 16:3-13) When Hagar was pregnant with Ishmael, she was thrown out by Sarah into the wilderness Poor Hagar was destitute. But the Great I AM was not caught by surprise. The angel of the LORD appeared to her and told her to return to Sarah. He said that he would multiply her seed exceedingly. She must have been comforted by all that the angel of the LORD said because she said in Genesis 6:13 “Thou God seest me:” God, the I AM, saw Hagar and He sees each one of His creation! Praise Him \o/

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Joh 4:25-26  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.  (26)  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Messiah, Jesus Christ, has and continues to speak through His Word! The New Testament had not been written yet; His plan of salvation is depicted throughout the Old Testament through Messiah. The New Testament reveals to us how Messiah Jesus the Christ fulfilled each of the Old Testament prophecies.

The prophecy of Exodus 3:13-14 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the I AM who takes away the sins of the world! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Prophecy of Messiah:

Gen 49:10  The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Good morning! As I write this, it is an absolutely beautiful day! I sat rocking away on my back porch and felt that sun on my face, all was peace. Just as I began to get too warm, the Good Lord sent a nice breeze along. I don’t believe in coincidences anymore. As I have grown as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I have seen His hand in both my life and my husband’s. Just as I believe there are no coincidences, I also believe it is NO coincidence that God would provide the beautiful plan of salvation from the very beginning of creation for His creation. It is all throughout His Word and is still being preached today!

There are some pretty “meaty” morsels in today’s post! 😀 Messiah is defined in a few ways which depict His authority, power, character and reign. Let’s start with the very first descriptive word in today’s verse, which is sceptre. Why is this word used for the Messiah, Jesus Christ? We can view it as a representation of what He stands for. Let’s look at the Hebrew word and description, along with what today’s historical definition for sceptre.

The Hebrew word for sceptre is:

שֵׁבֶט
shêbeṭ
shay’-bet
From an unused root probably meaning to branch off; a scion, that is, (literally) a stick (for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking, etc.) or (figuratively) a clan: –  X correction, dart, rod, sceptre, staff, tribe.

Strong’s Concordance

The Lord Jesus Christ is seen in so many ways in Strong’s definition. Think of it:

  • Branch off: He is the vine and we are the branches (John 15:5). Jesus, the head of the branches, produces branches (both Jews and Gentiles);
  • A stick for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking: 2 Peter 2:9 shows the results of unrighteousness through punishment; Revelation 22:18 shows us what happens when we add or take away from His words; Revelation 19:11 shows us that Jesus will return to earth at the end of the Tribulation to judge and make war with the unbelieving world; Revelation 20:6 provides us with a glimpse of His reign where He rules in Jerusalem. This is when Shiloh, which is defined as tranquil/peaceful will be brought by the Messiah, ; and lastly, John 10:11-14 reveals that our Good Shepherd knows His sheep, He protects His sheep, His sheep hear His voice and walks with them, and He gave His life for them!

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Luke 2:1-7  And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.  (2)  (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)  (3)  And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.  (4)  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)  (5)  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.  (6)  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.  (7)  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Gal 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

Furthermore, this sceptre is:

According to Wikipedia, A sceptre is a staff or wand held in the hand by a ruling monarch as an item of royal or imperial insignia. Figuratively, it means royal or imperial authority or sovereignty.

Wikepedia

We see this prophecy fulfilled by the Messiah, Jesus Christ, Our King, Jesus Christ is THE King of Kings as shown to us in 1Timothy 6:15, Revelation 17:4 and Revelation 19:16!

The prophecy of Genesis 49:10 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Scepter and Shiloh who takes away the sins of the world and will reign in truth and peace! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Prophecy of Messiah:

Gen 26:2-5  And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:  (3)  Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;  (4)  And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;  (5)  Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Good morning! Grab your favorite beverage and Bible and let’s dive right in this morning! Today’s prophecy has a lot to unpack and it is oh so so good! As we saw in our first post from this series, God had a redemptive plan for mankind. It began in the Garden of Eden and brought forward with the nation of Israel and through Israel. Messiah would come to redeem the sins of both Jews and Gentiles! \o/ Praise the Lord! We stand to gain so much knowledge and wisdom when we learn about the history of this redemptive plan!

We begin with Abraham’s obedience and faith and because of these, the world would be blessed! Can you imagine this? God worked through Abraham years ago to provide His mercy! Praise Him! Abraham trusted God so much that he was willing to follow God’s commands to the “T”! God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son and Abraham followed these commands by faith. What a beautiful analogy of God sacrificing His Only Begotten Son, the Messiah Jesus Christ!

Because of Abraham’s obedience, God promised Isaac that his seed would produce as the stars of heaven! (Genesis 26:4) God spared Isaac from being sacrificed so that from Isaac’s seed, the Perfect Sacrifice for the world would come!

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Heb 11:18  Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

Both Abraham and Isaac are mentioned in this faith chapter in Hebrews. Through them would the Messiah come. We see this clearly fulfilled as we read the genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew 1:1-16! Therefore, yet another prophecy mentioned in Genesis 26:2-5 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!

Gen 22:8  And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

Good morning, Reader! I hope you are finding this series as interesting as I am. I love to learn anything about the Lord Jesus Christ. I especially love to read how Scriptures prophesied of His coming and how He fulfilled that promise! Today’s post is especially exciting 😀

Why do you think the Bible says that God will provide “himself” a lamb? God could have said “God will provide a lamb.” But He didn’t: He said “God will provide HIMSELF a lamb”! It’s no coincidence that these words were chosen in this manner here. Think about it! Later in Genesis 22:13, a ram was “caught” in a thicket for Abraham to use as the sacrifice. Two things are shown to us here:

  • God provided the sacrifice (Abraham didn’t bring the lamb with him) (Genesis 22:7-8). Abraham did exactly what God asked him to do and Abraham trusted in God. After God saw Abraham’s faithfulness and obedience to Him, He made a way for Isaac to be saved and God provided the sacrifice for Abraham, as well as Isaac. Prophetically, the Word tells us that there would come a time where God would HIMSELF be that sacrifice.
  • God would provide HIMSELF as a sacrifice, through Messiah Jesus Christ, for all sins, not just those of Israel. After Christ died on the cross and became the living sacrifice for our sins, the promise to Abraham would now be fulfilled! (See Genesis 17:4)

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Just as God provided the lamb for Abraham, He provided HIMSELF as the Lamb of God for all mankind through Jesus Christ! Every word in the Scriptures is there for a reason. Verses point to another verse – the plan of redemption is foretold in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament; this is called the Red Thread of Redemption (which is a whole other study). When Jesus walked the earth, He did not have the New Testament; He quoted the Old Testament and preached from it.

The prophecy of Genesis 22:8 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Prophecy of Messiah:

Gen 14:18  And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

Stop! You are not mistaken that today’s Scripture is the same as the previous post! I know that it may seem repetitive, but this verse is packed with several pieces of important prophecies of the Messiah. So grab your favorite morning beverage and let’s dig a little deeper!

In today’s Scripture, we see the city of Salem and discover that Melchizedek was not only the priest but also the King of Salem. Jesus is our Priest and King!! I love it! Did you know that Salem was an early Old Testament name for Jerusalem? The word Salem means peace! Jesus, our Priest brings us peace through His death and resurrection. He also is our Righteous King who will bring peace to the world when He reigns! \o/ Glory!

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Heb 7:2  To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

If you doubt that the “then Salem” is Jerusalem now, take a look at Psalm 76:2 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. Where did the Old Testament Temple reside? Yes, the Temple resided in Jerusalem and it will be rebuilt there before Messiah returns. The Messiah King is mentioned many times in the Scriptures. Unfortunately, the Jews missed Messiah’s first coming and are looking forward to His “First” Coming; while Christians are preaching about His Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation.

Let’s also look at the following verses:

Joh 12:15  Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

1Ti 6:15  Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Rev 17:14  These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Rev 19:16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Act 1:9-12  And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.  (10)  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;  (11)  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.  (12)  Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

Jesus Christ, the King of Kings will return to the Mount of Olivet in Jerusalem. I found it interesting that the Mount is actually just a Sabbath day’s journey, which is only 2,000 cubits (3,000 feet – almost 6/10 of a mile). This is all the distance a Jew is allowed to travel on the Sabbath according to Rabbinical Law. It’s not far at all. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy completely!

So the prophecy of Genesis 14:18 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our King, Jesus Christ! Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? Prophecy of Messiah:

Gen 14:18  And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

Welcome back! 😀 If this is your first visit, I’m glad you decided to spend some time here to read about my favorite subject: the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua our Messiah! I absolutely love today’s topic! I learned about this not long after I was first saved and it is the very topic that got me interested in the different names for God. One of those names is in today’s verse!

Let’s take a look at what we can learn about Melchizedek, the priest of the most high God. First off, he’s the priest of the most high God. Jesus is the High Priest of God (Hebrews 4:14). We know that Abraham brought tithes to him (Genesis 14:20). We tithe to God, not to man (Malachi 3:8); it is in obedience to God, giving Him back in thanks for all that He has provided. Yes, our tithes help to support our church and its work. However, if we are only tithing so that the church recognizes that we have, we are tithing for the wrong reasons, amen? Melchizedek was a theophany of Jesus Christ. A theophany is the physical manifestation of God to man. Melchizedek accepted tithes; he brought forth bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most high God. All three of these are true of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prophecy of Messiah Fulfilled:

Heb 6:20  Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

I love that Melchizedek brought forth bread and wine; we see a wonderful picture of Jesus’ own body and blood brought to us in the Old Testament to be shed for us in the New Testament. It was taught from the beginning with Adam and Eve all the way through the New Testament, Reader! We see the wonderful sacrifice through Jesus Christ, to forgive all sins for all those who believe on Him. Since we are born again and read our Scriptures, we are wondrously able to see the gold nuggets that God gives to us! 😀 Praise You, Lord! (Psalm 9:1)

Mat 26:26-28  And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.  (27)  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;  (28)  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The Scriptures do not stand alone; each verse intertwines with other Scriptures revealing God’s love and mercy for His creation! The Bible, despite being written by different men in totally different times, contains no errors but only truth (Psalm 119:160, John 17:17). I found an interesting article at Answers in Genesis which expounds on the Bible’s uniqueness and inerrancy and I hope you enjoy it! It only solidifies the facts about its authority!

But friend, if you have managed to read through this entire post and you realize that you don’t know Jesus Christ in a personal way, it is not a coincidence. God has led you here so you can be led to Him. The prophecy of Genesis 14:18 is fulfilled by the One and Only Saviour of mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ, High Priest after the order of Melchizedek!
