1 Cor. 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
It’s a new day, reader! But with today’s prophecy, sadness and grief weighs heavily on my heart when I meditate on the suffering the Lord had to go through in order for me to be saved! 😥 If you’ve never read a doctor’s account of Christ’s crucifixion, you should take a moment and read about it. It’s not for the faint hearted! My hope is that you will look upon what Christ had to go through so that you and I could be saved!
Why did Israel not see their Messiah when Jesus came? Israel was looking for a conquering King as their Messiah, not One who was going to die on a cross. As Jesus was hanging on that cross, they mocked Him being there. As we see below, Jesus cried out with a loud voice “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” That is interpreted to be: Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani. God in His holiness could not be “joined” with Jesus while Jesus was bearing our sin upon Himself to pay the penalty we deserved!
When you realize what the Lord went through so that we might be saved, it should break your heart! He did not die a quick death. He hung on that cross from the sixth hour (noon) to the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.) – three solid hours of hanging and suffering! To top it off, it was by His own choice so that we might live eternally with Him! Thank You, Lord Jesus!
Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. It is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved if you are not already. Good morning, reader! Are you enjoying this series? Is it strengthening your spiritual foundation? I hope and pray it is! It definitely has added to my arsenal of Scriptures about Christ fulfilling all prophecies about His first and His fulfilling upcoming prophecies of His second coming!
Today’s verse is the same as the previous post because it is fulfilled in multiple ways. Let’s take a look. If you recall on the last post, I stated that if Christ had not risen from the dead our faith would be pointless – it would be in vain.
This is the crux of the entire Christian faith, amen? You may doubt that any of this happened, but that is the whole point of this series. It is my desire to help you to see that there were many witnesses who saw Jesus after His crucifixion (1 Corinthians 15:4-9). In a court of law today, two witnesses are usually enough to confirm a crime has been committed. It was required back in Christ’s time as well. Not only does the Bible speak of these witnesses, but there were historians who spoke and wrote about it. According to Wikipedia, the Apostle John lived until 100 AD. In that time, John’s disciples, Ignatius (35-117 AD) and Polycarp (69-155 AD), were hearing first hand from someone who had actually been with Jesus every day in Christ’s last three years. To top it off, they witnessed His resurrection. These two taught Iranaeus (120-202 AD) and he wrote about Polycarp’s conversations with John regarding Jesus’ bodily resurrection. In turn, Iranaeus told Hippolytus (170-236 AD). It is historians such as these that passed along the accounts until the Scriptures were put together for all of us to have the blessed opportunity to read! It is exactly the same as your family members passing down stories from their parents, who got it from their parents, and they got it from their parents! And on it goes. How can a person take these family stories as positive truth and not take the historians’ accounts of Christ? Christ’s history had well over 500 witnesses; your stories from your family may have 20 at best!
Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we would be lost. But the Good News is that He did rise again and all who believe in Him will be saved (Acts 16:31). Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I was raised as a Catholic and I knew of Jesus Christ, but I did not know Him personally. Once the light of the Gospel was shed on my heart, I immediately went from knowing about Him to knowing Him personally. I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. Good morning, dear Reader! The sunrise is beautiful and the peace and quiet in the house is so welcomed. I realize this has nothing to do with today’s topic but it’s good to remember the days when I was raising my children. It was difficult trying to find a peaceful moment where I could spend time with the Lord. As soon as the light from where I did my devotions gave its glow from the bottom of the kids’ bedroom doors, they would be up! 😂 And when I kept my time with Him after they went to bed, I would fall asleep while reading. Just as there are different phases to our lives, there are different phases to our spiritual lives as well. Some do their devotions outside where they can experience nature all around them. The Lord Jesus created all these things for mankind to enjoy and it is no wonder that we can find Him through His creation! (John 1:10) What phase are you in right now, Reader?
Let’s get back on track, LOL! Today’s prophecy reveals to us that after Jesus’ death on the cross, He went to Abraham’s bosom to show those who died in their faith that He was their long-awaited Messiah (Luke 16:22). Jesus’ body did not decay as all those people who died before Him. David wrote about this in today’s Psalm 16:10.
Now we see in Acts 2:31, that Peter spoke of David’s prophecy and showed all who were listening how Jesus fulfilled it. This may not excite some readers but it is surely the very foundation of all born-again believers. If Christ had not risen from the dead, our faith would be for nothing! Jesus would be just another prophet and people would still be trying to get to Heaven by trying to live by the Law (Galatians 2:21). However, Jesus did rise from the dead and revealed God’s grace to mankind. All we have to do is believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 3:16). In fact, He IS God (John 1:1).
Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? Knowing Jesus personally happens the moment you accept Him as your Saviour, friend! Your heart changes and your sinful nature is replaced by a desire to live for Him. I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. It’s another day for us to praise God and anxiously anticipate the long awaited Rapture! Amen? Any moment we will be instantly changed to be forever with our Saviour! Hallelujah!
Today’s prophecy is such a blessing because it deals with the innocence of a child. Children have such faith and they just don’t doubt what is being told to them. Jesus loved children and said that receiving the kingdom of God as a little child was the only way (Mark 10:14). People who are highly intelligent tend to deal with the tangibles and logic. However, a child receives information he is told without questioning its origin because he trusts his parents. It’s no different with receiving the Gospel! We are to receive the information the Bible teaches with child-like faith! Don’t try to complicate matters… just receive the truth of God’s Word and let it work in your heart!
Do you know Jesus personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Good morning! What a wonderful way to start the day! Spending time with the Lord in His Word during the early hours is the best way for me to give all of my focus and attention. It’s this quiet time that I am blessed with a verse or thought that just absolutely makes my day! When is your favorite time? Is it a set schedule or are you the type that enjoys spending various periods of time in the course of your day?
Can you imagine being present when today’s verse was fulfilled? I can only imagine what the disciples thought! If they knew their Old Testament, they would have recognized that the prophecy that David wrote was fulfilled in their own lifetime! How exciting is that!? I see prophecy being fulfilled today about the end times and I stand amazed that these things were written since creation through 90 AD! Anyone reading this blog knows how I enjoy the end-time prophecies and what is happening and about to happen to those who are left during the tribulation on this earth. So I can imagine how those in Jesus’ time felt when they heard and saw this fulfilled! Can’t you?
Scripture doesn’t say if everyone heard the voice from Heaven. But in the Gospel of John, it is written that John the Baptist said:
So we read that John the Baptist heard and saw what happened. God made sure that John would recognize the Messiah when He came. John attested to it and even gave a little more information in the following verses:
As if this wasn’t enough, he goes on to say “Behold the Lamb of God!” John the Baptist knew when this prophecy was fulfilled the day of Jesus’ baptism, that he had encountered the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of man. The sacrificial lamb offered by the high priest for the sins of Israel would no longer be sufficient. The new covenant was here: Jesus Christ, our High Priest, would offer Himself as the perfect and spotless Sacrificial Lamb for the remission of all our sins, not just Israel’s! o/ Praise the Lord!
Good morning, reader! Of all the titles for the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, my absolute favorite is King! There are still a few kings who reign over a country today. King Charles III is the most recent in the news. However, today’s kings are not going to rule forever. Our kings are human beings and will eventually die. But the King we will be discussing today is the ultimate King. He is the King of kings!
This same King of Heaven left His throne to become a man who would live a sinless life because mankind could not even come close. This same King then became the perfect sacrifice for all sins! This same King rose from the dead with a glorified body and became the first to do so (Mark 16:6). We will also receive a glorified body at the Rapture if we believe on Him as Saviour! This same King gave His life for His people so that they could live and reign with Him. (2Timothy 2:11)
Our King is coming back for us! We will be raptured to Him in the clouds AND we will also come back with King Jesus after the Tribulation to reign with Him! (Revelation 19:11-16) Who would have thought that we would personally know a King? Not only just a king but THE KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS (Revelation 19:16)! People like to think of Him as the baby Jesus – but I love to think of Him as King Jesus, MY King! The only King!
Do you know the King personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. Good morning, reader! Have you ever wondered which book of the Bible is the oldest or which one is the newest? Or who was the person who lived the longest? What I love the most is that I can always seem to find answers to my questions in my Bible. It is the book of knowledge and wisdom according to Proverbs 2:6, amen? God wrote the book through His Holy Spirit (2Peter 1:20-21) and therefore He provides us with both knowledge and wisdom when we read His Word.
Job is said to be the oldest book. Job doesn’t mention Moses and the Law so he probably lived during the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Furthermore, Job offered sanctified his children and offered a burnt offering for all of them. Only the priests did this so Job must have existed prior to the Law.
Just think of this for a moment, Job says how he wished that his words were written and printed in a book! Well they were! More than that, he wanted them written with an iron pen and lead in the ROCK for ever. Jesus is the Word of God (Revelation 19:13) – the Father in Heaven sent His Son to be the Father’s words in the flesh. Jesus is the spoken Word of God (John 1:1, John 1:14, Hebrews 1:3) and His Holy Spirit penned it on paper through His prophets and Apostles. (John 14:26, 2Peter 1:20-21)
Even at this early time in history, Job knew that he would see his Redeemer and that he would partake in the resurrection of life!
Doesn’t this give you goosebumps? It sure does for me! These words were recorded for us in the Scriptures so we would be excited about the upcoming resurrection of life for all believers! Unfortunately, there will also be another resurrection: not unto life but unto death! I can’t imagine someone not caring about what happens to them after they die. If they only knew the pain and suffering that awaits them. If you knew that your house would catch on fire during the night on a specific day, wouldn’t you make sure that your smoke detectors were functioning and batteries were new? Of course you would. It’s no different with where you will spend eternity! We have the Bible, which is our smoke detector (no pun intended). In it are the words of eternal life for all who will believe in Jesus Christ, our Saviour! You can find out what that will be like by just reading the Scriptures! All the answers are there!
Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. The best place to start when you want to learn about Hell is with Jesus. He spoke about it in great detail in today’s Scriptures. In this particular instance, Jesus is not speaking in parables. Parables didn’t have names associated to the person. However, in today’s Scriptures, Jesus speaks of Lazarus and a rich man. To me, this is the best depiction of what it will be like in Hell. So let’s read the account:
Just because you don’t believe there is a Heaven or a Hell, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. What if you’re wrong? Are you always 100% right in everything you think? Of course not! So what if you’re wrong thinking that Hell doesn’t exist?
Let’s take a look at what’s going on in the account of the rich man and Lazarus:
This was not a parable because parables never mentioned names. In today’s Scripture, Jesus named the poor man, Lazarus. Jesus knew him by name. (Exodus 33:12, Exodus 33:17) Just as I don’t know everyone else’s children’s names, but I do know my own, so does God know the names of each one of those who love Him and are saved.
The rich man lived in luxury here on earth. He had expensive clothing and plenty to eat. Lazarus, on the other hand, had rags and looked for scraps to fall from the rich man’s table so he could eat. In fact, the rich man’s dogs licked Lazarus’ sores! Their lives on earth could not have been any more opposite. This isn’t to say that it is wrong to be rich. What is wrong is that the rich man had no compassion toward those in need. His focus was on himself and how to please his own flesh.
Notice how each one died. Lazarus was carried away by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man, on the other hand, was simply buried and went to Hell.
Let’s take a look at the circumstances in their destination. Lazarus was in Abraham’s bosom. This gives us a view of being hugged and in comfort. While Lazarus was on earth, he was neglected and alone. But now he was being comforted. In Hell, the rich man, lifted his eyes and could see Lazarus and Abraham afar off. So the rich man was quite conscious of what was happening.
Notice that the rich man was in torment. Noah Webster defines torment as: “Extreme pain; anguish; the utmost degree of misery, either of body or mind.” He was in such pain he was crying. What was the rich man crying about? He was begging for mercy! Notice in verse 24 that he had a thirst that was never to be quenched. Even being in Hell, the rich man was still high and mighty in his unrepentant thoughts. He didn’t ask Abraham to bring water, but to send Lazarus! Also, the rich man was so thirsty that he would have even welcomed a drop of water dripping from Lazarus’ finger! Now I would say, “that’s thirsty”! And why was the rich man thirsty? The verse ends that he is tormented in this flame! If you’ve been working out in the yard on a hot summer day, you are well aware of how thirsty you can get. Not only was the rich man thirsty, but he was burning! Receiving a burn anywhere on your body will produce pain. I think of my worse sunburn and how the pain lasted for a few days. The rich man was in the flames and was not being consumed! He is still burning there and will be for all eternity! His pain will never go away. I also noticed that Lazarus was with Abraham sharing in the joys of Heaven. However, the rich man was not with anyone. He was very much alone.
Abraham reminded the rich man of the reason he was in Hell in the first place. He had all the comforts that his riches could afford him while he was on earth but he didn’t care for his eternal soul. Meanwhile, Lazarus had nothing on this earth but obviously did care about where he would spend eternity. He may have been poor but he was apparently rich in faith.
The rich man thought about his family on earth while he was in torments. He didn’t want them to go to Hell to experience what he was experiencing (vs. 28 “this place of torment.”) But Abraham told the rich man that they had Moses and the prophets to listen to. I found it interesting that the rich man knew his family wouldn’t listen, just as he didn’t listen. Instead, he said that if one from the dead would go to his family, they would repent. But it doesn’t work that way, as we see in Abraham’s reply. He said in verse 31, “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose form the dead.”
Dear Reader, Hell is a real and literal place. It’s nothing like the humorous skit performed by some comedian. It’s unfortunate that they could not care less about their future! The New Testament speaks more about Hell than Heaven! The warnings are there in the Scriptures. I would venture to say that every home has a Bible in it, whether in print or on their cellphones/computers. No fortune teller or medium can bring anyone back from the dead to warn them. They have the Scriptures which contain all that we need to guide us. It is the road map to Heaven and that is through Jesus Christ.
There are other Bible verses that tell us about the characteristics of Hell – none of these characteristics are pleasant:
Hell is a place where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 8:12). The word gnashing according to Noah Webster means: “Striking the teeth together, as in anger, rage or pain.” Imagine crying because you are in pain yet being so angry with rage because of your bad decisions that placed you in this place for all eternity!
Hell is a place of eternal damnation to anyone who denies Christ as Saviour, which is considered blaspheming the Holy Spirit. (Mark 3:29).
Hell is a place where the worm doesn’t die (Mark 9:48). Just as worms eat decaying bodies, in this instance, the body will never decay.
Hell is a place where the fire is never quenched (Mark 9:48). It will be burning for all eternity.
Just as we read in today’s account of the rich man and Lazarus, we see that Hell is a place where those without Christ will cry and beg for mercy. They will have memories of their families. They will be alone. They will be in torments with no way to escape! (Luke 16:19–31).
Hell, according to the Apostle Paul, is a place of everlasting destruction, everlasting absence from the presence of the Lord, and everlasting absence of the glory of His power (2 Thessalonians 1:9). It will be too late to accept Christ as Saviour at that point; you will, however, regret your rejection of Him for all eternity.
Hell is a bottomless pit filled with dark smoke (Revelation 9:2). Have you ever seen astronauts preparing for their mission in a gravity-free chamber? They float around and do not change direction until they run into an object. Imagine then being in darkness and always falling and never running into anything! How frightening this must be! You can’t see your hand in front of your face and you’re continually falling! The graphic I posted above shows that the darkest part of the flame is black. Although the outer part of the candle can produce light, the black part does not. This is what it will be like in Hell.
Hell is a place where God’s wrath is poured out. Those who are there will be tormented with fire and brimstone. Their torment will go on for ever and ever neither will they have rest from their torment! (Revelation 14:10-11).
Just as both the rich man and Lazarus immediately went to their final destination, so will each and every one of us (Hebrews 9:27). It is our choice as to where that destination will be. Have I frightened you? I certainly hope so. Spending eternity in Hell is no laughing matter. Please, friend, I beg you! If you have not been born again, please do so before it’s eternally too late for you. You do not know when you will die. You could be on your way home from work and get in a car accident. If you have read this post through, then you are accountable for knowing the difference between Heaven and Hell. Now let me show you how you can be saved. Don’t be like the rich man! If you are not born again, your sins are not covered by Jesus’ sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. It is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved if you are not already. Good morning! Are you awake yet? 😂 I’m on my second cup of coffee and finally seeing straight, LOL! I am sitting here in a warm house, enjoying the beauty of a Fall day in Culpeper, Virginia. We are so blessed to be able to have beauty all around us no matter what our circumstances are. I grew up in a tarpaper shack in Northern Maine where my father worked very hard to make it a home for us. We were taught to be grateful for the roof over our heads and heat to keep us warm during the blistering cold winters. As a result, I grew up appreciating that even though we had bread poured over with milk for every meal for a couple of weeks at a time, it filled our bellies and we didn’t go hungry. It’s all in the perspective of the beholder, amen? What are you appreciative of this morning?
I’m not really sure why I opened with these words but I suppose someone out there needed to read it. So many negative things enter the thoughts of people in today’s world that they have forgotten what is good. The Apostle Paul knew all about the thoughts of man. After all, he was imprisoned, whipped and beaten, boiled in oil, stoned, just to name a few of his tortures. But yet he exhorted us in Philippians 4:8 what we should think about and meditate on; this coming from the man who used to persecute Christians before he was saved.
So let’s get back on track with today’s prophecy of the Messiah. We are told in 1Chronicles 17:13a that the Messiah would be the Son of God.
This prophecy is fulfilled by Jesus Christ and we are told this in Hebrews 1:5. It wasn’t only found in this passage of the New Testament, but was also revealed in Matthew 3:17, Matthew 17:5, Mark 1:11, Mark 9:7, Luke 3:22, Luke 9:35, and 2Peter 1:17. Israel was to recognize that Jesus was revealing Himself as the Son of God as prophesied in the Old Testament. Their leaders knew their Scriptures – they would have recognized what Jesus was claiming. I believe that they understood that Jesus was claiming this and that is why they wanted Him killed. (John 10:33)
Do you recognize the Son of God as Jesus the Messiah? Do you know Him personally or do you only know of Him? I want to be sure that anyone who reads the posts on this blog can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are going to Heaven. Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If no, your sins are not covered by His sacrificial offering of Himself. You have not been redeemed by His blood. It’s a new day and in my brain comes thoughts of Christ’s return to Rapture His Church! Who belongs to His church, you ask? All born-again believers from the time of Jesus’ resurrection to the day of Rapture will be included. I’m not talking about people who claim to be saved but live like the devil. I’m talking about people who actually repented of their old life and have lived for the Lord! (2Corinthians 5:17) I look forward to the Rapture every single day. Why every day? Have you looked around you and thought that the world has literally turned upside down? I look around and see people calling the killing of babies in the womb “good for women”; even up to when they come out of the birth canal 😥 I see “scientists” actually saying there are more than two sexes and cannot define what is a woman! I see church members fighting amongst themselves over social issues. My heart breaks but I know in my heart that God’s Word is always true and He said this would happen. (2Samuel 7:28, Psalm 119:160, John 17:17 and many more) Therefore, that is why I believe with all my heart that the time is here for the Tribulation to begin. (2Timothy 3:1-7) It cannot begin however, until the Rapture has occurred. This is why I think of the Rapture every single day! 😀 These times were prophesied in Isaiah and Jesus spoke of it as well.
Today’s prophecy of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, is about Him being the Rock. However, to top it off, Samuel also mentions that the Messiah would be the “light.” Do you recall the Scriptures where Jesus taught about building a house on a rock or sand? Jesus said that the person who builds his spiritual life upon a rock, his house would not fall because it was built upon a rock. Because our faith and salvation are based on the Rock, we are solid and safe in Him. You can read more about the Lord being called a rock in: Deuteronomy 32:15, 2Samuel 22:47, 2Samuel 23:3, Psalm 62:7, Psalm 89:26, Psalm 94:22, Psalm 95:1, and Isaiah 17:10. It is no coincidence, friend.
Notice that the God of Israel was spoken to by the Rock of Israel! If you’re Jewish, this verse should cause you to wonder who in the world is speaking to God!
Jesus is the Rock that is prophesied. The Apostle Paul makes it clear below; as plain as the nose on your face. The Rock is Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Saviour of mankind! This same Jesus sheds His light upon our hearts and leads us to Him through His Word.
Don’t walk in darkness, Reader. Please, I beg of you, to make sure that you know Him today. Allow the beautiful light of the Gospel of Christ shine in your hearts; let it shine upon your sins so that you can seek forgiveness, repent (2Corinthians 5:17) and be saved through salvation in Jesus Christ. He will forgive your sins and will lead you to the truth and knowledge in His Word.
