Maranatha - Awaiting Christ's Return

1 Cor. 15:52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I Will Praise Him!

What a beautiful hymn this is! It flows right into today’s devotional. 💜

Have you, or are you going through trials that seem unending and insurmountable? Some are in the midst of an illness that will never go away. Some are suffering financially with no where to go. While others are in the valley of the shadow of death. But what makes these people different from Christians going through the same trials? It is the peace which surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7). It reminds me of the precious old hymn, It is Well With My Soul

When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”

It is difficult to say that “it is well with my soul” when the struggles of life seem to have no end. What is even harder is to praise the Lord and give thanks for these very struggles!

1 Thess. 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

It is your nature to take your eyes off God and place them on your circumstances. However, that is exactly what the enemy wants you to do. When praise flows from our lips to the only One who can give peace and reassurance, our eyes readjust and focus on God instead. Is it any wonder that the Scriptures have the most beautiful praise verses that were penned during the author’s trials?

Isa 25:1  O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

Psa 150:6  Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Psa 63:3-4  Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.  (4)  Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Psa 28:7  The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psa 103:1  A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Psa 42:11  Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Act 16:25  And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

When you find yourself smack dab in the middle of a trial that you think you cannot bear, listen to the hymn I posted along with the verses. May they speak to your heart and heal your broken spirit.

Praise be to God in the Highest for having a plan so we can spend eternity with Him. Salvation is a choice. Exactly what have you got to lose if you choose salvation? You will go to Heaven at the Rapture or at your death if you are saved. If you believe the lie that God would not send anyone to Hell, then you will go there. God is a righteous Judge and He will send you there, but only because it was your choice. First and Last

Rev 21:10-14  And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,  (11)  Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;  (12)  And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:  (13)  On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.  (14)  And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The rise in anti-Semitism is heartbreaking to me. There are many Christians who believe that the Church has replaced Israel but that is the furthest thing from the truth!

Here are some fun facts:

  • The word Israel is mentioned 2,576 times in the whole Bible
  • It is mentioned 2,501 times in the Old Testament
    • The first time it is mentioned is in Genesis 32:28
    • It is mentioned 411 times in the Major Prophets
    • It is mentioned 105 times in the Minor Prophets
    • It is mentioned 43 times in Genesis
    • It is mentioned 169 times in Exodus
    • It is mentioned 65 times in Leviticus
    • It is mentioned 236 times in Numbers
    • and, It is mentioned 72 times in Deuteronomy
  • It is mentioned 75 times in the New Testament
  • The last time it is mentioned is in Revelation 21:12

If the Church was to replace Israel, there would be no need to include Israel in the end times. However, we find that in Revelation 7:4, the Lord seals 144,000 Jews (12,000 from each of the 12 Tribes). Their main job is to spread the Gospel of Yeshua, Jesus Christ.

Notice how New Jerusalem is made in Revelation 21:10-14.

  • First it is called holy Jerusalem.
  • It has twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
  • Its foundation: the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The Church did not replace Israel nor did Israel replace the Church. Jesus was a Jew, born in Israel. He died so we all could be forgiven of our sins. Israel did not recognize her Messiah but they will, as a nation, at the end of the Tribulation. Israel and the Church are one, brought together by Jesus Christ!

Gal 3:28-29  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  (29)  And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

To be “in Christ” is to be born again, receiving His Spirit within you and thus having a new life! Salvation is a choice. Exactly what have you got to lose if you choose salvation? You will go to Heaven at the Rapture or at your death if you are saved. If you believe the lie that God would not send anyone to Hell, then you will go there. When is Bragging Good?

Isa 25:1  O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

There are so many braggarts today. You can see this in all the selfies, the social media posts, etc. Everywhere we turn, there is someone who is boasting about an accomplishment or their body. What does God say about it?

Jer 9:23-24  Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:  (24)  But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

Satan was the ultimate boaster – he couldn’t contain himself from bragging due to his pride!

Isa 14:12-15  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  (13)  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:  (14)  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  (15)  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Is it ever OK to brag or boast? Today’s verse is only one of many that encourage us to brag on the Lord!

Exo 15:2  The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Psa 99:5  Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

Psa 107:32  Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have food on the table? Do you have clothes to wear? Be thankful! Be content with what you have. Brag on the Lord who takes care of all of our needs!

Mat 6:25-26  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  (26)  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Boast about things relating to God to those around you! Brag on Him and how He provided salvation for us while we were yet sinners!!! Remember!

(Genesis 19:26)  But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

(Luke 17:32)  Remember Lot’s wife.

I’ve heard a few messages about Mrs. Lot, and the outcome of her looking back toward Sodom and Gomorrah. But I never heard it preached in the context of the end times. The truth is that Jesus told us to remember Lot’s wife while He was talking about what will happen in the end times. The Lord’s reminder is only mentioned in Luke’s gospel.

Mrs. Lot must have heard the same warning of impending judgment from the angels as her husband. But yet, her heart was not “in it”! She couldn’t grasp the fact that the city she lived in would be completely destroyed. Before we pass judgment on her, aren’t people today doing the same thing? Even the church is asleep when it comes to the end times. Just as Mrs. Lot was not ready to leave the comforts of her life, neither is the world.

Luke goes on to tell us what Jesus wants us to watch for. Just as in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. (Luke 17:26) Lot’s wife was going about her day-to-day chores when sudden destruction was upon her city. She was not ready to grasp the reality of what was to happen. As well, the world is not spiritually ready to grasp what is to come. They don’t want to hear it. They scoff at those of us who try to warn them of the impending doom. Luke continues on to tell us about the horrors of the end times.

But for those of us who are watching, and are spiritually awake, we are ready for the Rapture of Luke 17:34-36! We won’t be on earth when the Tribulation’s judgments arrive. People have heard the Good News but, like Lot’s wife, are not ready to commit to salvation. They want to continue in their “life” and their worldly attachments. But right around the corner is their worst nightmare!

Jesus warned us to remember Lot’s wife. So remember her. Make yourself ready by receiving His gift of salvation. Salvation is a choice. Exactly what have you got to lose if you choose salvation? You will go to Heaven at the Rapture or at your death if you are saved. If you believe the lie that God would not send anyone to Hell, then you will go there. Truth Versus Peace

“Never let us be guilty of sacrificing any portion of truth on the altar of peace.” ― J.C. Ryle

There have been many articles written about the recently deceased pope. J.C. Ryle’s quote could have been writing about this pope, but yet his ministry was in the 1800’s! We see more compromise in the pulpit in order to have unity.

However, you can’t have unity until it is centered on God’s Word. We should be leery of preachers who are becoming wealthy at the expense of the Bible! There are red flags everywhere around us today! Auditoriums filled with thousands of people waiting to hear the next “feel good” message out of the mouths of charlatans.

It breaks my heart to see how far the church has come since the day I got saved in 1980. One can hardly recognize the sermons as being presentations of the Gospel of Christ and repentance! A person cannot detect truth in today’s modern church even if it reached out and bit them! It’s so sad. We have become a soft people that fights for everything but the truth. People need to hear about Jesus Christ and the salvation He freely offers!

Joh 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

We must remember that Germans thought if they kept silent, it would bring about peace. But instead, evil prevailed and millions were killed. Had the German churches banded together and fought, there would have been a different outcome.

“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless.
Not to speak is to speak.
Not to act is to act.”
― Dietrich Bonhoeffer

You can try to keep the peace all you want. I pity the preachers that change God’s Word and twist Scriptures come Judgment Day. When their messages are without the truth of Jesus Christ, their hearers won’t remember what was said a day later. We are the light and the salt of the earth; we fail when we don’t share the truth of God’s Word. It is what leads to salvation. It is what will be remembered.

Satan’s Tactics Are Not New!

Gen 3:1-5  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?  (2)  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:  (3)  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.  (4)  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  (5)  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

In just these five verses in Genesis 3, we see how Satan has managed to cause man to doubt/question what God says by changing and twisting God’s Word. It began in the Garden of Eden, and it ends in Revelation. We can see a progression.

1. First, Satan causes man to question what God says. Did God really say that specifically? Did God really mean that or did He mean this? It’s no wonder there is every wind of doctrine floating around today. Yea, hath God said. I can actually envision Eve mulling over God’s Word in her mind.

2. She mulls it over so much that she adds to God’s words. Neither shall ye touch it – If you read Genesis 3:1, God doesn’t say that they should not touch the fruit; they were not to eat it. When man doesn’t like what God has to say in the Bible, he adds to God’s words. We see this in mainstream religions that say that salvation is grace plus works. Ephesians 2:8-9 clearly states differently.

Eph 2:8-9  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  (9)  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

3. Satan twists God’s Word. We see his techniques when Jesus goes to the wilderness (see Matthew 4:3-4, Matthew 4:6-7, and Matthew 4:8-10). The devil works through popular “preachers and evangelists”! There’s just enough truth in what they preach, but the rest is man-made doctrine. I see false teachers everywhere (Joel Osteen for one), and it will be much worse during the Tribulation.

4. Satan’s desire for himself was to be “as God.” He deceives himself and he desperately tries to cause mankind to think they can be as gods. Your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.  Yuval Noah Harari of the WEF claims “we will now aim to upgrade humans into gods.” Satan’s goals are the goals of the global think tanks of today.

Isa 14:13-14  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:  (14)  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

5. This twisting of Scripture finally ends in a great delusion due to deception. There is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9)! Satan’s techniques are the same today as they were in the Garden of Eden.

Rev 20:10  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.6. The end of Satan will finally come when he is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where he will be tormented day and night for ever and ever!

Rev 12:9  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

There is nothing new under the sun. The Yuval Noah Harari’s of the world think they are bringing the world into the future. However, it was that same goal in the Garden of Eden. Friend, the Bible is God’s words to mankind. This quote from an unknown author summarizes it perfectly!

This Book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s character. Here paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object; our good is its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is given you in life and will be opened in the judgment and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents. Author Unknown

Love/Hate Relationship

~Psalm 5:5 — “The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”

~Psalm 11:5 — “The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.”

~John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

What kind of relationship do you have with God? Do you love Him? Are you indifferent? Indifference is equal to hate because it is opposite of love. God hates sin but loves the “person.” God could not possible hate the sinner because it would contradict:

~Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

If God hated sinners, He would not have sent Christ to die for us “while we were yet sinners.” However, I believe it is quite clear in the above text that God does hate those who are wicked, work iniquity and love violence. Unless they repent from their sins and believe in Jesus Christ as Saviour, God has no choice but to cast them into the lake of fire!

You must understand that it is man’s choice to go to Hell, not God’s. Man can choose to continue being wicked, continue working iniquity and continue to love violence. It is these types of sinners that God hates. God is omniscient (all knowing), therefore, He knows if this sinner will come to repentance or not. Once man chooses not to repent, then God in His righteousness must judge that sinner.

God’s love is so great that He sent His own Son to take on the penalty of man’s sin. How great is that love?! Would you give up your own child for the sins of someone else?

Time of Uncertainty

We now live in a time where we cannot trust what anyone says is true. Isn’t that sad? What’s even sadder is that we can no longer take what is even preached out of the pulpit as being true to the Bible. Preachers twist the Scriptures in order to serve themselves. Take Joel Osteen, for example. I do not follow him but have seen interviews with him. How sad that he does not point the unbeliever to Christ! So how can anyone really know that they are reading and hearing the truth when they go to church or open a Bible? With what and/or how do we measure the truth? These are all vital questions and there are answers!

In order to become a doctor, one must learn from books written by scientists and doctors. They trust that what they are reading and learning are true because of the authenticity of those authors. In the Christian faith, the standard of truth is the Bible. We know this because Jesus Christ Himself quoted the Scriptures throughout His ministry. In fact, He said:

~John 10:35b … the scripture cannot be broken;

Christ laid the foundation for truth to His disciples and pointed them to it. Jesus is qualified to do so because He is the Word of God, made flesh, so He could convey those words to man. Throughout Christ’s ministry, those words were revealed and recorded by men through the power of His Holy Spirit.

~John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Christ also prayed that His disciples would be set apart and grounded in this truth, then He pointed them to what was considered to be the truth.

~John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

God’s Word is not only the truth but it contains the only truth for anyone who wishes to find it. Anything else is a forgery or a knock off.

The world thinks that people who read the Bible, and live by it, are weird and uninformed. However, the opposite is true. The Bible is so current that prophecy is being fulfilled in front of our very eyes! The world can believe what they want, but our duty is to tell them that what they are seeing in current events was predicted first in the Bible. People want proof so show them the proof!

I have a text file on my computer where I add any current event that has been prophesied. This helps me to remember the Scriptures as they relate to modern-day events. I am able to share these events and point people to the Scriptures as they relate to what is happening. Once I have their interest, I am able to share the Gospel.

Have You Made Your Reservation?

1 Peter 1:3-5  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  (4)  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,  (5)  Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

For those who believe they can lose their salvation, today’s verses should be an eye opener. There is one reason that there is so much dissention between once saved always save proponents and those that believe you can lose your salvation. What is that reason?

There are people who pray a little prayer at the altar because their hearts were “stirred.” There is no heartfelt acknowledgement of their sin, no sorrow for their sin, and no repentance.

Today’s verses make it quite clear that our eternal salvation is not dependent on what we do or don’t do in order to keep it. Once we have been truly born again, salvation is finished and it is kept by God. Our inheritance (new life in Christ) is incorruptible, undefiled, and cannot fade away! We have a reservation in Heaven waiting for either our death or the Rapture! Peter ends with verse 5 with the fact that we are kept by the power of God!!!! We are not kept by our own works and good deeds. Granted, after we are saved, we should desire to do the Lord’s word, but that is not what will keep our salvation.

Salvation is a choice. Exactly what have you got to lose if you choose salvation? You will go to Heaven at the Rapture or at your death if you are saved. To Trust Or Not To Trust

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7

Chariots and horses were the tanks and fighter jets of David’s day. Battles were won because of chariots and horses. But in that same statement, David goes on to say that he would remember the name of the LORD our God. Do we remember the name of the Lord in our day-to-day trials and battles?

[A Song of degrees.] I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. (Psa 121:1)

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. (Psa 121:2)

Do we really know where our help comes from? Do we realize just Who loves us? God loves His creation! Our King will not lose! The battle is not ours, my friend. The battle is His.

And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands. (1 Sam. 17:47

The Book of Revelation shows us Christ is the Victor in the end! He will have the final victory over the enemy! I found it interesting that the phrase “every knee” appears only three times in the Bible. Each time, the reference is to Christ!

I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. (Isa 45:23)

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. (Rom 14:11)

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (Phi 2:10)

We will all bow our knee to the King of kings and Lord of lords at His coming! Our trials and battles on this earth will all be behind us! Jesus Christ, the King, will have won not only the great battle of Armageddon, but He will have won the war against Satan! Ole slew foot’s time is almost over! He is fighting his battles with all fervency trying to defeat the Christian. Are you going to allow the devil to win in your battle? If you do, you will be ashamed when you stand before Christ and give an account for your little faith. Why not have victory instead so your tears will be tears of joy and not of shame and sorrow?!
