Day 27 – How do I Cope with Anxiety?

Photography by Cecelia Becker

~Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.

My fear of heights would give me cause to worry when I look at today’s photograph. There’s a bit of a railing but not enough to entice me to go up. Plus the stairway looks very unstable to me. And if I were to go up, being at the very top looking down would stir fear in my body.

Christians are not exempt from anxiety and stress in their lives. However, unlike those who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ, Christians do have the wonderful capability of leaving those stresses and anxieties with the Lord. Today’s text reminds us that our relationship is now that of a child of God! He truly cares for His children as a Father cares for his child!

~1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Because of our special relationship, we know that we have a compassionate God who cares for every detail – every anxiety – every stress! Are you experiencing life’s burdens today? Are the stresses and anxieties of your life robbing you of the peace that the Lord promises can be yours? Take comfort from God’s very words in the Scriptures!

~John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

~Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

~Psalm 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.

~Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

The Lord can calm your storms just as He calmed the winds. Notice the verse – it says there was a great calm! This same God will give you a great calm if you let Him.

~Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

~Hebrews 13:5b …for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Heavenly Father,

I am filled with stress and anxiety and I need Your help! Thank You for the Scriptures where I can be comforted. I place each of my anxieties and burdens at Your feet, Lord. Please take each of them and carry them for me. Replace my fears with Your wonderful gifts of peace and comfort! I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. Thank You, Lord, for keeping me in palm of Your hand and in Your perfect peace!

Amen!
